Nefertiti - The Queen of Beauty

In my last post, I talked about my desire to visit the Pyramids. And I remember coming across one news item about Queen Nefertiti. A look at image of her statue now located in Berlin proved why she is held in such high regard.

Queen Nefertiti's identity remains somewhat of a mystery. It is believed that Nefertiti was the wife of the Pharoah Akhenaton, one of the greatest rulers in the history of Egypt. He was the first to promote the worship of a single God; Aten, the sun god.

Nerfititi had a great love for her husband and much of the artwork of the two shows them in affectionate poses. This picture as well reflects her compassionate heart and her magnanimity.

Nefertiti was known throughout the ancient world for her outstanding beauty and her name loosely translates to “The beautiful woman has come.”

Hyderabadi at Heart

Recently one of my friends from work returned to Kuwait. He had been to Hyderabad during his visit to India. He told me that he was fairly impressed with Hyderabad, with its beauty and weather. I remember my days there. Weather is not always as good but the place is a pack of assorted picture post cards. And I feel home due to the joints and food courts and so many other spots where I used to while away my time chatting with friends, or talking to Supriya on phone, or sometimes roaming around with her, and most of the times roaming around with Hariharan riding pillion on my Kinie.

The picture is of Charminar. It used to be synonymous to Hyderabad before HiTec city took its place. The monument was created by one of the Kings of Golconda, possibly Quli Qutub Shah, to commemorate the end of plague epidemic which took many lives. I visited the place with my parents when they came to visit me last year. I had been in Hyderabad for some four years without visiting the heart of it! We went upstairs and looked around. The City looked vast with the hillocks, rocks and, of course, homes of the millions. Wonder how people in the olden times could construct such monuments with towering heights without much mechanical aides. That takes me to thoughts about the Pyramids, which I desire to visit in near future.

Admire the beauty of the Charminar.

The photo is from one of the websites of Indian Embassies.

My Alma Mater

Behold the Indian School of Mines and my Mining Engineering Department as they stand the testing times through the last about 80 years. 80? That does sound archaic but look at the beauty of it. The buildings that once hosted the British who used to roll out engineers to run the show for the ever hungry British Industries for the raw materials like coal and iron ore, and the doyens of mineral and petroleum industries of the post independence era who have sought self dependence in basic and energy sectors, and the likes of me who went astray but found something of substance for themselves. The red stones that make the structure and elegant layout that beats many heritage sites, are at the heart of all ISMites who cherish each and every moment spent in ISM. And who always long to go back one more time and pay our tributes to the very building blocks of our careers.

Stealing a Glance

The chemistry between my mother-in-law and me is obvious for the eyes. My ma is a darling and we both admire and love each other. And she has such a good understanding of my nature and my way of thinking that I am amazed. But what else do you expect from mothers? She is very sweet and very caring. And I am so glad that she is my mother. Supriya used to tell me that ma never liked boys. She has two daughters and they are both gems. That possibly may explain why she never liked boys. But I have had quite a success rate with mothers. Somehow God has made me very likeable to them. And I don’t want to be boastful, but it is very likely that ma liked me even before we met when we spoke over phone in the earlier times of my courtship with Supriya.

But this article is not about what is obvious in this picture. Look at the third party in this picture and notice something in her eyes. This Friday morning I celebrate the first quarter of our marriage. Another look at the photo album revealed this theft of glance, so full of love, care, belongingness, pride, passion and much more that I got goose pimples.

I visit new places,
I meet so many people,
And admire them and make friends,
I like so much so many of them,
But when I go home,
And meet the one, whom I met for ever,
And see in her eyes my universe,
I love her all the more all over again.
